I wonder if N. Carolina residents are aware of the processing of 'low level' nuclear waste in Oak Ridge, and Memphis,TN. Some of this 'processing' involves burning the waste, and releasing some that they say is not radio-active, even though it is. As western NC residents, we are directly down-wind and down-stream of the effects of this incineration and release.
I wonder if NC residents are even notified of when these incinerations and releases are taking place. However 'safe' they are supposed to be, I can't imagine it is good for the environment or the people living here.
I would hope the public awareness of this issue would increase, and that our legislative representatives will be addressing this issue in our best interest in the very near future.
Thank you.

Does the Chamber have a listing of environmentally friendly businesses. If yes, where can that be located?

1. Through material substitution and process changes , Carpenter's Conover facility has reduced it's hazardous waste generation by 99% compared to the 1980s.
2. Also through process changes and material substitution, this facility has reduced Hazardous Air Pollutant emissions 99%+ compared to the '90s.
3. Through significant investment in state-of-the-art production equipment, the Conover facility has reduced VOC emissions by 70% over the past 5 years.

1. Eliminated use of hot water and detergents in washing machine. Product is called Laundry Pure.
2. Installed whole house energy management system called PowerwoRx. Effectively slows down the electric meter through energy conservation measures.
3. Installed the Rinnai tankless hot water heating system.
4. Updated HVAC system to state-of-art system by Bryant.
5. Replacing standard light bulbs with energy efficient bulbs.

Sandy from Vanguard would like to know about state tax credits when buying recyling equipment. Does it come off your taxes? What forms are there to fill out? Thank you. Sabina
